How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?

Between $5.95 and $24.95, depending on how the buyer found you.

For an $80 item with $20 shipping, a US seller keeps $90.05 when the buyer came through Etsy search, $75.05 when they came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, $78.05 at 12%, and $94.05 when they came through your Share & Save link.

The buyer’s last click decides which applies. A click on an Offsite Ad means the ad fee; a click on your Share & Save link means the refund; an order never gets both.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee, payment processing and Offsite Ads are all charged on the shipping you collect.

Charging $20 for shipping costs you $1.30 in transaction fee and $0.60 in processing on that $20 alone, before any Offsite Ads fee. Free shipping built into the item price is charged exactly the same, because the fees follow the order total, not the label on it.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

Only payment processing. For US sellers, the 6.5% transaction fee and Offsite Ads are not charged on sales tax, but the 3% processing fee is.

With 8% sales tax on a $100 order, the buyer pays $108 and processing rises from $3.25 to $3.49. The tax itself is not your money: where Etsy collects sales tax, it pays it to the state.

How do Etsy Offsite Ads fees work?

Etsy advertises your listings on other sites and charges 15% or 12% of any order that follows within 30 days of a click, never more than $100.

Shops under $10,000 in sales over the prior 365 days pay 15% and can opt out. Once a shop reaches $10,000 it pays 12%, participation becomes mandatory, and that stays true for the life of the shop even if sales fall back.

The 30-day window covers any order the buyer places from your shop, not only the listing they clicked.

How much does Share & Save save you?

Etsy refunds 4% of the order (item, shipping and gift wrap, before tax) when a buyer arrives through your own Share & Save link.

On a $100 order that is $4 back, so Etsy’s cut drops from $9.95 to $5.95. It is a refund, not a waiver: the normal fees are charged and 4% comes back. Shops in Etsy’s Affiliate Program or Creator Collective cannot also use it.

How do I price so every sale still pays?

Switch the calculator to “What should I charge?”, enter your costs and a target margin, and set “How did the order arrive?” to an Offsite Ad.

Pricing for the most expensive way an order can arrive means every other sale earns more than your target, never less. Include your time: a price that only covers materials is a hobby, not a margin.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take per sale?

For a US seller, $0.20 per item plus 6.5% of the order and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing: $9.95 on a $100 order. An Offsite Ad adds 15% or 12% (up to $100); a Share & Save order gets 4% back.

How much does it cost to list an item on Etsy?

$0.20 per listing, charged when you publish it. A listing lasts four months and renews automatically for another $0.20 unless you switch renewal to manual. Editing a listing is free.

Do I pay the listing fee again when I sell one of several?

Yes. A multi-quantity listing renews at $0.20 after each item sells, so every item sold carries its own $0.20.

Does Etsy charge fees on personalization?

Yes. A paid personalization option is added to the listing price, and the whole amount is charged the 6.5% transaction fee (and Offsite Ads, when they apply).

Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?

Only while your shop has made under $10,000 in the prior 365 days. Once it reaches $10,000, Offsite Ads are mandatory at 12% for the lifetime of the shop.

Do I get Etsy’s fees back if I refund an order?

If you refund through Shop Manager, Etsy refunds the transaction and processing fees for the refunded amount, recalculated on the new sale price. Cancel the order as well and the listing fee is credited too. When Etsy itself covers a refund to the buyer, your fees are not credited back.

Does it cost money to open an Etsy shop?

It may. Etsy’s policy describes a one-time set-up fee some new shops are asked to pay, shown during set-up. The policy names no fixed amount and says the fee may be waived.
