Most Etsy advice online is quietly out of date.

Etsy changed how titles should be written, how shipping price affects your ranking, and what it costs to open a shop. Almost nothing you will find on YouTube has caught up.

The Etsy Seller Playbook is 94 pages covering launch, growth and ads — with every fee, rule and deadline checked against Etsy’s own pages this month.

The Etsy Seller Playbook — 94-page guide
Why a new edition

Four rules that changed while everyone kept teaching the old ones

These are not obscure details. Each one directly affects whether buyers find your listings, and every one of them is still being taught the old way.

"You get 140 characters. Use all of them."

Etsy rewrote its title guidance in April 2026

Name the item once, add your top three objective traits, keep it under about 15 words. "Gift for her" and "beautiful" now belong in tags, not the title. Keyword-stuffed titles read as low quality to the algorithm and to the buyer.

Shipping cost does not affect your ranking

US listings under $6 shipping are prioritized in search

Live since October 2024, and one of the most common invisible causes of a traffic drop — nothing in your dashboard announces it. The book covers the exclusions too, including why calculated shipping is exempt.

"There is no fee to open a shop."

Some new shops now pay $15 and verify their ID

A one-time, nonrefundable set-up fee plus a government photo ID and a selfie before the shop can open. Nearly every "start an Etsy shop for free" guide still says otherwise.

Vintage fur is fine, it is over 20 years old

Real fur is banned from 11 August 2026, with no vintage exemption

The policy reads "regardless of age or origin", so a 1960s mink stole is treated exactly like one made this year. The book has a full compliance module — the thing no Etsy course covers.

Questions

Before you sign up

Is it really free?

Yes. The whole 94-page book, no payment and no credit card. We ask for your email so we can send the file and occasionally tell you when Etsy changes something that affects your shop.

I already have the three separate courses. Is this different?

Substantially. This edition merges them into one book, corrects 17 claims that are no longer true, adds a compliance module none of the courses had, and lists every source so you can check it yourself.

Do I need to use MyShop to get value from it?

No. The book stands on its own and never assumes you are a customer. There is one section near the back about what MyShop does, and that is it.

How often will you email me?

Once or twice a month at most, and only when there is something worth knowing — a policy change, a deadline, a new guide. There is an unsubscribe link in every email.
