Getting Etsy Views but No Sales? Check These 5 Things First

By The mySHOP Team · 2026-09-27 · 8 min read

If shoppers are clicking on your Etsy listing but not buying, the hardest part is already done. They found you. Something on the listing is making them hesitate, and that is usually fixable in one sitting. Before you pay for ads, check five things on your busiest listing.

Key takeaway: Views with no sales usually means a listing problem, not a traffic problem. Pick the listing with the most views and the fewest orders, and check it in this order: photos, title, tags, description, price and shipping. Fix one or two things at a time before you spend anything on more traffic.

Views but no sales is a different problem from no views

If your views are close to zero, shoppers aren't finding you yet, and our guide to why an Etsy shop gets no views covers that. This post is for the other case, where they find you and then leave.

The thing to fix here is conversion, which simply means a shopper who looks at your listing goes on to buy. Etsy's Shop Stats define conversion rate as the percentage of visits to your shop that ended in an order, and Etsy says it can be affected by photo quality, price, reviews, titles and description, and shipping and return policies. Most of that shows up right on your listing page, so that's where a shopper decides.

To find your starting point, open Shop Manager and choose Stats. In the section called Shoppers viewed your listings, you can see views, favorites, orders and revenue for each active listing, and sort by any of them. Sort by views. Look near the top for a listing with few or no orders.

If that listing has lots of favorites too, take note. A favorite is a shopper saying "maybe," so something on the listing stopped them short of "yes."

Why fix the listing before you buy more traffic

More shoppers on a listing that isn't converting mostly means more people leaving, and with ads you pay for those clicks. If you fix the listing first, the views you already get have a better chance of turning into orders.

Trying costs nothing. Etsy doesn't charge for editing a listing. The $0.20 listing fee applies when you create or renew one, not when you swap a photo.

What you'll be doing is called a listing audit. That just means reading one listing top to bottom the way a shopper would and checking each part against a short list. It takes about 10 minutes.

Watch out: Don't slash your price first. It is the most tempting fix and the hardest to walk back. Work through the rest of this list before you touch it. If you do run a sale, keep it honest: Etsy's Seller Policy says sales, discounts and price comparisons must reflect real, accurate pricing.

The 5 things to check, in this order

This order follows how a shopper reads: photos, then title, then details, then the total cost. Tags sit behind the scenes, but they decide which shoppers arrive.

1. Photos

Shoppers can't pick your item up, so your photos have to do that for them. They should show how big it is and what it's made of, so nobody has to message you to ask.

Etsy lets you add up to 20 photos and 2 videos to each listing. Two or three photos leave easy questions unanswered. You don't need anything fancy. A good set includes:

  • A clear first photo of the finished item
  • One photo that shows size, like the item in a hand
  • A close-up of the texture or material
  • The item in use, or where it would live
  • Every color or option you sell

Etsy says its search looks at the whole listing, including the first photo. For help making your photos work on a small phone screen, see our guide to mobile-first listing photos.

2. Title

Read your title out loud. Would a stranger know what the item is from the first few words?

Etsy's guidance puts the item type first, then key traits, and suggests keeping it under about 15 words. Titles can run to 140 characters, but Etsy advises against repetition and subjective words like "perfect," and says there's no need to add price or shipping.

One myth you can let go of: Etsy says where a phrase sits in your title doesn't affect ranking, meaning how high your listing appears in search results. Etsy still suggests leading with the words that best describe the item, but that's so shoppers can scan it quickly. More in Etsy SEO Explained.

3. Tags

Tags are short search phrases that tell Etsy which searches your listing fits. You get 13 per listing, up to 20 characters each.

Use all 13. Make each one a phrase a shopper would type, and make sure every tag still matches this exact item. Tags copied from an older listing can pull in shoppers who wanted something else, and those shoppers take a look and leave.

4. Description

A shopper who scrolls this far is interested and wants a reason to say yes. Read yours and ask:

  • Does the first line say what it is and why someone would love it?
  • Are size, materials and what's included easy to find?
  • Does it say how long making and shipping take?

Etsy search reads descriptions too, so use the plain words a buyer would search. For a full structure, see writing descriptions that sell.

5. Price and shipping

Shoppers look at the total, not just the item price. A surprise shipping cost can lose the sale at the last step.

If you sell in the US, shipping affects search too. Etsy prioritizes US listings with domestic shipping under $6, and listings at $6 or more get reduced visibility, meaning they show up less in search. Some listings are exempt from this rule, such as digital items, listings with calculated shipping, and listings over $35 with a free shipping guarantee.

Picture the item in your own cart and ask whether you'd pay that total. If shipping feels high, try folding part of it into the item price.

What to do this week

  1. Sort your listings by views in Stats and pick the one with the most views and fewest orders.
  2. Check it in order: photos, title, tags, description, price and shipping. Jot down what feels weak.
  3. Fix one or two things, not everything, so you can tell what helped.
  4. Note the date and what you changed. Look again in a few weeks, then move to the next listing.

If you'd like a second pair of eyes, Spryte can go through a listing with you and point to what to change first.

Quick win: fix one listing today

Set a timer for about 10 minutes and do this between orders.

  • Minute 1: Open Stats, sort by views, and open your top listing with few orders.
  • Minutes 2 to 3: Look at the photos on your phone. No size shot or close-up? Add one you have, or note what to shoot tomorrow.
  • Minutes 4 to 5: Read the title out loud. Does it start with what the item is? Cut repeats and words like "perfect."
  • Minutes 6 to 7: Count your tags and fill any empty ones.
  • Minutes 8 to 9: Read the first two lines of the description. Do they say what it is?
  • Minute 10: Check the total with shipping. Would you pay it?

Hit save, and that's one listing in better shape than it was this morning.

FAQ

Why do I get Etsy views but no sales?
Usually something on the listing makes shoppers hesitate. Check photos, title, tags, description, and price and shipping, in that order, starting with your most viewed listing.

People favorite my items but don't buy. Why?
They like it, but something stopped them. Check the total with shipping first, then look for unanswered questions, like size.

What should I fix first on a weak listing?
The photos. They're the first thing a shopper sees, and Etsy says its search looks at the whole listing, photos included. Then the title.

How often should I audit my Etsy listings?
One listing a week is a steady, doable pace. Recheck each one a few weeks after you change it.

Should I rewrite every listing or start with one?
Start with one. Your most viewed listing has the most shoppers to win over.

Is this the same as the Search Visibility page?
No. Etsy's Search Visibility page flags listings with reduced visibility in search and says why. That's about being found. This checklist covers what happens next. Our guide to the Search Visibility page shows how to use it.
