Etsy Now Tells You Why a Listing Is Not Showing Up
By The MyShop Team · 2026-08-15 · 5 min read
You have a listing that used to get views and now gets almost none. Nothing changed on your end. You have rewritten the title twice, swapped the first photo, and refreshed the tags, and the graph is still flat. Until recently the only honest answer to why was a shrug.
Key takeaway: Etsy has added a Search Visibility page in Shop Manager that flags which of your listings have reduced visibility and why. It turns a guessing game into a list you can work through.

What the Search Visibility page does
It tells you which listings are being shown less in search, and it gives a reason. That second half is the part that matters. Sellers have always been able to see that traffic dropped. What they could not see was whether the drop was competition, seasonality, or Etsy actively holding a listing back.
Those are three completely different problems with three completely different responses, and guessing wrong costs you weeks. A listing suppressed for a policy or quality reason will not recover no matter how many times you rewrite the title.
Where to find it
It lives in Shop Manager. If you have not looked since early 2026 it will be new to you, because the page was added recently enough that most seller advice online predates it.
Worth checking even if your traffic looks healthy. A single suppressed listing in an otherwise fine shop is easy to miss when you are reading shop-level numbers, and it is exactly the kind of thing that quietly drags a category down.

The reason most likely to be flagged
Shipping price. Etsy prioritises US listings with domestic shipping under $6 in search, and listings at $6 or more see reduced visibility. That has been live since October 1, 2024, and it remains the single most common self-inflicted visibility problem.
The trap is that it is invisible in your own analytics. Your listing is not penalised in any way you can see. It simply gets shown to fewer people, and you interpret that as the market losing interest.
The fix is arithmetic rather than optimisation. Work out whether folding shipping into the item price puts you under the threshold, and whether the higher item price still converts. For small light items it usually does. For anything heavy it may not, and that is a real business decision rather than an SEO tweak.
The reasons that are not about your listing at all
Etsy treats customer service as a ranking input, not just a badge requirement, and it grades four areas rather than the two most guides mention. Respond to 80% of first messages in a thread within 48 hours. Ship at least 80% of orders on time. Keep your average review rating healthy: under 40 reviews, no more than 4 may be 3 stars or less, and at 40 or more, fewer than 10% may be. Keep your case rate low: under 300 completed orders, no more than 3 may have a case refunded from your payment account, and at 300 or more it must stay under 1%.
Miss those and the effect lands across your shop rather than on one listing. This is the case where rewriting a title is guaranteed to do nothing, because the problem was never in the title.
It is also the most fixable category on this list. Answering messages faster requires no keyword research and no photography.

Why title and tags are not the whole job
Etsy search evaluates the whole listing, not just the title and tags. That sentence quietly invalidates a lot of the advice sellers were given a few years ago, when the accepted method was to pour keywords into 13 tags of 20 characters each and treat the description as marketing copy nobody read.
The ranking inputs Etsy publishes are broader than that: relevancy, shop quality, listing quality, customer service quality, listing engagement rate, recency, translation quality, and shopper habits through Context Specific Ranking.
Most of those are not text fields. Shop quality and engagement rate are earned over time. Which means a listing can be perfectly optimised at the keyword level and still be held back by things that have nothing to do with words.

Working the list properly
The temptation with a new diagnostic page is to open it, feel briefly bad, and close it. A better use is one pass, in order.
- Open Search Visibility in Shop Manager and read every flagged listing with its stated reason.
- Group the flags by reason rather than working listing by listing. Ten listings flagged for shipping are one decision, not ten.
- Handle shipping price first if it appears. It affects the most listings for the least effort.
- Check your message response time and on-time shipping rate against the 80% thresholds before touching any listing text.
- Only then rewrite copy, and when you do, fill in the whole listing rather than the title alone.
- Use Marketplace Insights in Shop Manager, under Stats, for keyword data. It is Etsy's own tool and it gives you 15 free keyword searches a week, with unlimited searches on Etsy Plus.
If you would rather see which of your listings sit above the shipping threshold before you open anything, ask Spryte to sort your catalogue by domestic shipping price and hand you the list.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Search Visibility page on Etsy?
In Shop Manager. It flags which of your listings have reduced visibility and gives the reason for each.
Does shipping price really affect Etsy search ranking?
Yes, for US listings. Etsy prioritises domestic shipping under $6 and reduces visibility for listings at $6 or more. This has been in effect since October 1, 2024.
Can slow message replies hurt my ranking?
Yes. Etsy names customer service quality as a ranking input, and the published standards cover four areas, not two: message response rate (reply to at least 80% of first messages in a thread within 48 hours), on-time shipping and tracking, average review rating, and case rate.
How many tags does an Etsy listing get?
Thirteen, at 20 characters each. Filling them well matters, but Etsy evaluates the whole listing rather than tags alone.
Is there a free Etsy keyword tool?
Yes. Marketplace Insights is built into Shop Manager under Stats.
